Why Isn’t Clash Royale Dead Yet?

Clash Royale has been on a rollercoaster ride for quite some time, but today, we’re taking a deep dive. Welcome, I’m Santaur, and in this video, I’m putting an end to the negativity and highlighting what’s still great about Clash Royale.

Despite its dwindling player base, Clash Royale still shines in a few areas. The core concept of building your own deck and selecting the cards you love remains a major draw. Progression on lower levels is swift and enjoyable, and starting from scratch with new cards adds excitement to the game.

Unlocking new features over time is another strong point. For new players, the sense of progression is rapid. Features like 2v2, clan wars, challenges, and tournaments are expertly crafted and bring a fresh dimension to the game.

Now, let’s talk about the grind. While many criticize it, I believe a certain level of grind is essential to keep players engaged. However, this grind must have clear goals, be attainable for free-to-play players, and not heavily impact gameplay. Unfortunately, the new level 15 doesn’t meet these criteria, especially for high-level players, making it nearly impossible for them to compete.

On the bright side, card masteries provide a good grind alongside card leveling. This system doesn’t affect gameplay and benefits both free-to-play and paying players, although Supercell’s recent move to replace gems with gold in this system is questionable.

Frequent balance changes are crucial for any game with a diverse card pool, and Clash Royale delivers here. Regular updates keep the meta fresh. However, Supercell’s new player voting system for card changes has flaws, as it doesn’t allow players to influence cards that Supercell doesn’t want to change.

The Clash Royale community comprises various player groups, from beginners to professionals. The challenge lies in balancing the game to cater to all these groups. Beginners prefer OP cards, while professionals have different preferences. It’s a fine line to walk, and considering all these aspects, Clash Royale’s card balance isn’t as bad as it may seem.

Lastly, let’s talk about card evolutions. This concept has potential, adding a unique element to the game for players of all levels. However, it’s paywalled, making it challenging for free-to-play players. The game’s future could be brighter if this aspect is balanced better.

As Clash Royale’s future hangs in the balance, Supercell needs to shift its approach to attract new players and keep OG players engaged. Additionally, supporting content creators would be a win-win for both the game and the community.
